Master Class Series

Asia's Urban Future

Professor Douglass will run a master class open to all CityU students as part of the 30th anniversary sustainability summit. It will be run as a small interactive workshop. We will distribute a small amount of reading material the week before at a pre-workshop meeting, which will allow all students to participate on an equal footing.

The workshop will promote an understanding of Asia’s future needs and the participants will be encouraged to consider the broad scale of Asia's rapid urban transition. It will provoke discussion about such issues as the environment, global climate change, and the portent of increasing environmental disasters. It will highlight the difficulties cities face in shifting from disaster management and engineering solutions to a disaster governance approach that calls for social engagement in finding more resilience to disasters.
