CityU alumnus, Mr Frank Freeman (陳風先生), an experienced photographer, will host a workshop on “Creative Photography (創意攝影)”. The 3-session workshop will equip beginners to intermediate photographers in understanding how to take great looking photographs. You will learn the most important camera settings and how to apply them in taking portraits and collective photos for a specific topic or even black-and-white moody shots. You will also get the chance to practice taking these creative photos and Frank will give you tips and advices on your phototaking skills.

  • Learn to build a series of photography works based on a topic you are interested in and turn it into a presentable photographic work
  • Learn how to become the photographic artist in short (with setting the topic, writing the artist statement and building the related images)

Portrait Photography

  • The basics of the camera settings
  • Simple rules of taking good portraits, e.g. the composition, angle and lighting
  • Get to know some great portrait photographers

Black & White Photography

  • Learn to appreciate a black and white image
  • How to take good black and white photos with the camera you have without extra retouching
  • Create good contrast and find the right lighting for your photo

Participants are required to bring their own cameras.
