CityU receives HK$500 million donation to promote One Health
Dear colleagues, students and alumni,
We are delighted to share with you the exciting news that the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust (the Trust) has made a generous donation of HK$500 million to CityU, the largest single donation the University has ever received.
We are deeply grateful to the Trust for this valuable gift, which will have a transformational impact on CityU’s One Health initiative to promote human health, animal health and environmental health in Hong Kong and the region.
The donation will support the construction of the Jockey Club One Health Tower, an iconic building on campus that will have top-notch facilities. It will also house CityU’s College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences, the first of its kind in Hong Kong.
The College, which will also be named Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences, is a strategic initiative developed in collaboration with Cornell University, our long-term academic partner. It will conduct interdisciplinary research, train high-level veterinary professionals, address critical public health and food safety issues, and set the standard for excellence in veterinary medicine and One Health science throughout Asia.
In terms of hardware, the 12-storey Tower, with a floor area of 16,500 square metres, will be developed at the original site of the Sports Hall. It will add much-needed extra space for teaching and learning, provide for new offices and laboratories, as well as an enlarged sports hall with an indoor running track and other enhanced facilities.
In addition, it will include an elegant 1,500-seat auditorium for major performances, conferences, Congregation, our annual Arts Festival and other major events in support of the development of the arts and creativity on campus.
