Appointment of New Chairman of the Council
Dear colleagues, students, alumni, and Council and Court members,
We welcome with great pleasure the appointment of Mr Lester Garson Huang, JP, Managing Partner and Co-Chairman of PC Woo & Co, as the Chairman of the Council of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) by the Chief Executive of the HKSAR, for a period of three years with effect from 1 January 2018.
Mr Huang is a renowned legal professional with extensive experience and expertise in wide-ranging fields of legal practice. He was the President of the Law Society of Hong Kong. Mr Huang has a strong interest in education, and is the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research.
Throughout his illustrious career, Mr Huang has made valuable contributions to numerous public service committees and professional bodies. He has rich experience in higher education and has served on the Councils of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the University of Hong Kong. Mr Huang also has a deep concern for youth development. He is the President of the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, one of the largest local NGOs in this field.
CityU looks forward to moving to the next level of development under Mr Huang’s able leadership.
On behalf of the University, I would also like to take this opportunity to express our deep appreciation to Mr Herman Hu Shao-ming for his excellent contributions as Chairman of the Council during his two terms of office.
With Mr Hu’s strong support and guidance, CityU has accomplished many remarkable achievements, including, among others, groundbreaking results in fundraising, the successful establishment of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences, and the launch of Hong Kong’s first undergraduate veterinary programme to spearhead innovation. It was also under his able leadership and tireless efforts that the stewardship of the City University Community College was successfully transferred to the University of Wollongong, thus enabling its further development into a private university.
Mr Hu will always be a highly regarded friend and close ally of the CityU community.
We wish both Mr Huang and Mr Hu a prosperous 2018!

新任校董會主席
各位同事、同學、校友、校董會及大學顧問委員會成員：
我們非常高興黃嘉純先生，JP，胡百全律師事務所合夥人兼聯席主席，獲香港特別行政區行政長官任命為香港城市大學（城大）校董會主席，自2018年1月1日任期三年。
黃先生是法律界知名人士，在多個法律領域擁有豐富經驗和專業知識，曾任香港律師會會長。黃先生極為關注教育事務，為現任語文教育及研究常務委員會主席。
在他卓著的專業生涯中，黃先生曾在多個公共服務委員會和專業團體擔任公職，作出寶貴貢獻；曾先後擔任香港科技大學校董會成員、香港大學校務委員會委員，在高等教育事務上經驗豐富。黃先生同時深切關注青少年發展，現任香港青年協會會長，該會是本地規模最大的非政府青少年發展服務機構之一。
城大期待在黃先生的卓越領導下，大學發展能更上一層樓。
藉此機會，謹代表大學向胡曉明先生致以衷心感謝。他在擔任兩任城大校董會主席期間，為大學作出傑出貢獻。
在胡先生的大力支持與指導下，城大取得眾多傑出成就，包括取得前所未有的募款成績、創立動物醫學及生命科學院，及推出香港首個獸醫學學士課程，促進創新。與此同時，在他的卓越領導和不懈努力下，順利轉移城大專上學院的管理予澳洲的伍倫貢大學，為其發展成為私立大學奠下根基。
胡先生將永遠是城大社群尊崇的朋友和親密盟友。
