Staff Profile

Dr Bruce J Richardson, studied for his SBC (Hons) in Botany and Microbiology at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, and also qualified as a Secondary Teacher at the Christchurch Teachers' College before shifting to Melbourne in 1976 to undertake a PhD program at La Trobe University. Upon completion of his doctorate, he worked for the Marine Science Laboratories of the Victorian Department of Conservation, Forests and Lands as a marine scientist. In 1985, he took up a position at Deakin University, Geelong, where he remained until 1995. During 1989, he spent six months in San Francisco, California, studying techniques of environmental monitoring. In 1995, he took up his current position in the Department of Biology and Chemistry at City University. His research interests include the design of monitoring programs for estuarine a marine environments; the use of living organisms as monitors of environmental contamination; and monitoring trace organic contamination in aquatic environments.
