Staff Profile
Dr. Michael Hon-Wah Lam received his Ph.D. from Hong Kong University in 1990. His Ph.D. research involved the synthesis, photochemical and reactivity studies of osmium nitride complexes. After one year of serving in the Government Laboratory of Hong Kong as a forensic scientist, he obtained the Croucher Foundation Fellowship to work in the Johnson Matthew Laboratory of the Imperial College, U.K., under Nobel laureate (the late) Sir Geoffrey Wilkinson, in the field of organometallic chemistry. He returned to Hong Kong in 1992 and took up the post of water scientist in the Environmental Protection Department of Hong Kong. Dr. Lam joined the City University of Hong Kong in 1994 as an assistant professor. His current research interests include environmental and analytical chemistry, application of molecular imprinting technique to develop chemosensors for environmental monitoring and clinical diagnosis purposes, and the development of surfactant-mediated extraction and pre-concentration methods for environmental and clinical analysis.
