Staff Profile

Professor Rudolf Wu is the Chair Professor and Director of the Centre for Coastal Pollution and Conservation of the City University of Hong Kong. He published one book, four book chapters and 175 scientific papers in leading international journals in the fields of marine ecology, marine pollution, ecotoxicology and mariculture. He serves as an Associated Editor of Marine and Freshwater Research and Journal of Bioindicators, an editorial board member of Australasian Journal of Ecotoxicology, and the Chief Editor of five special issues of the journal Marine Pollution Bulletin. He has been invited to serve as a keynote speaker / plenary lecturer and present papers at more than 55 international conferences.

Prof. Wu has served on many working / expert  groups of various international organizations, including the United Nations (UN), the International Maritime organization (IMO) and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC). Currently, he is one of the 13 members of the “Group of Experts on the Scientific Aspects of Marine Pollution?(GESAMP) of the UN, and he was one of the 24 members of the Coastal Ocean Observation Panel of the IOC, the Multidisciplinary Expert Group of UN's Regional Programme of the East Asian Seas, the Scientific Advisory Panel of UK's Environment Agency, Board of Director, Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) Asia Pacific.

In the last five years, Prof. Wu has completed many milestone consultancy studies for the Hong Kong SAR Government and various public utilities. The total contract value of these consultancy studies exceeded HK$38 million. He also conducted numerous regional training programs for the UN, and contributed to the second review of the Health of the Oceans commissioned by the UN.
