Staff Profile

Dr. Doris Au's expertise is in molecular morphopathology and ecotoxicology of marine animals and micro-organisms. Her research focuses on developing molecular, biochemical and cytological markers for environmental stresses, in particular, relating these biomarkers to Darwinian fitness traits such as growth and reproductive impairments. She is an editor of the SCI journal "Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety" and also serves as reviewer of many top international journals in cytology, environmental sciences, ecotoxicology and general biology. Currently, she teaches four undergraduate courses, including "Organisms and Environment","Microbiology", "Biodiversity" and "Environment: Crises and Opportunities". She has undertaken a number of multi-million dollar consultancy projects commissioned by the Environmental Protection Department, Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, Drainage Services Department and private sector. More recently, she has been invited to serve on a number of international committees of United Nations and APEC, and also committees of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department of the Hong Kong SAR government.
