Entrance Requirements for Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE) Students

For admission to the government-funded Associate Degree programme offered by the Division of Building Science and Technology, applicants must meet the general entrance requirements and division-specific requirements as given below. The levels/grades indicated are the minimum acceptable but possession of the qualifications in no way guarantees acceptance.

General Entrance Requirements

  • Grade E or above in one HKALE subject [or two HKALE AS subjects which may include Use of English and Chinese Language & Culture] AND
  • Grade E or above in AS Use of English [or HKCEE English Language level 2], and AS Chinese Language and Culture [or HKCEE Chinese Language level 2] AND
  • Grade E (or level 2) or above in five HKCEE subjects.

Division-Specific Requirements

Grade E or above in 5 HKCEE subjects (may include level 2 or above in English Language or Chinese Language), a mathematical subject must be included.

Entrance Requirements for Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Students

For admission to government-funded Associate Degree programme offered by the Division of Building Science and Technology, applicants must meet the following entrance requirements. The levels/grades indicated are the minimum acceptable but possession of the qualifications in no way guarantees acceptance.

Three Subjects
(excluding Applied Learning, Chinese Language, English Language)
Level 2

Notes: Unspecified electives may include "other languages" at grade E or above.

Other Considerations

Admitted students are permitted to select one of the four majors after the first semester of study:

  1. Architectural Studies
  2. Building Services Engineering
  3. Construction Engineering and Management
  4. Surveying (Building Surveying/Estate Surveying/Quantity Surveying)

Students who intend to select Building Services Engineering OR Construction Engineering and Management are advised to study one or more of the following HKDSE subjects:

  • Mathematics (Extended Module 1 or 2)
  • Science (integrated or combined)

Suitable applicants may be invited to attend an interview in July.
