Executive Mentoring Programme

Introduction

The Executive Mentoring Programme (EMP) intends to promote a sharing and supportive relationship between the experienced professionals in the business world and selected students of CityU. Through direct interactions with senior executives at the work setting, student mentees are expected to learn about different perspective in the world of work and to facilitate their school-to-work transition. The programme, though non-academic in nature, may serve as a significant complement to the academic curriculum of the university.

Objectives

  • To broaden students’ perspective towards the world of work;
  • To develop students’ confidence in communicating with senior business professionals; and
  • To assist students in developing their career aspirations.

Mentors

  • Senior professionals/ executives with at least 8 years’ working experience in various business or service industries.
  • Mentors come from diverse industries including accounting, advertising, banking, education, marketing, NGO, etc.

Mentees

  • Year 2 and Year 3 undergraduates with a cumulative GPA 3.0 or above
  • Commit to engage in the programme continuously for at least 1 year (till December 2015)

Duration of the Programme

  • Around one and a half years (January 2015 – June 2016)

Programme Content

  • A tea reception will be held as a first official gathering for mentors and mentees tentatively in January 2015.
  • Mode of contact including company visits, experience-sharing sessions, work-shadowing at the mentor’s workplace, telephone conversations, email communications and other social events.
  • Mentors and mentees are encouraged to build rapport for proactive learning and experience sharing on a regular basis agreeable by both sides.
