Teaching is not a lost art, but the regard for it is a lost tradition.

~Jacques Barzun~

The teacher who is indeed wise does not bid you to enter the house of his wisdom but rather leads you to the threshold of your mind.

~Kahlil Gibran~

In teaching you cannot see the fruit of a day's work.  It is invisible and remains so, maybe for twenty years.

~Jacques Barzun~

Teaching is the profession that teaches all the other professions.

~Author Unknown~

Paradise now for REAL teachers?

Socrates was a teacher and so was Confucius. Has it come across your mind that the overworked, tired, neglected teacher of today in fact carries the same noble and important historical mission as those of Socrates, Confucius, and, perhaps Lu Xun?

This is a great time indeed for all those who want to teach because of the recent education reform the impetus of which points to independent learning. In other words, it means more freedom for teachers to share their values, knowledge, and interests with their students. Imagine the 4 KLAs…civic education, reading, project based learning, learning through IT. This is an ocean of opportunity for those who like teaching and think of it as a life career.

For all those who aspire to be teachers, remember this: all great societies have great teachers, and societies that do not know how to honor them will pay the price in time.
