Dean & Associate Deans

Professor Martin Painter is Acting Dean of the College and Chair Professor of the Department of Public and Social Administration. Professor Painter's research interests include governance reforms in East Asia, policy capacity and regulatory reform. He teaches subjects in the areas of public administration and management, and policy studies. Professor Painter has been awarded several consultancies on public administration reform in Vietnam and was engaged as the lead resources person in preparing the United Nations World Public Sector Report 2005.   Dr Catherine C H Chiu is Associate Dean (Undergraduate Curriculum) of the College, responsible for matters in relation to the development of undergraduate curriculum, including general education, transition to the 4-year normative degree, and outcome-based teaching and learning. Dr Chiu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Asian and International Studies. She teaches courses in Sociology, East Asian Societies, Social Research Methods and Qualitative Research Methods. Her research interests include Work and Labour Studies, and Gender Studies. Dr Alice Ming-lin Chong is Associate Dean (Student Life and Learning) of the College, responsible for the promotion of whole-person development of undergraduates in the College. She would be the person to find if undergraduate have any queries, difficulties or suggestions on enhancement of student life and learning. Dr Chong is an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Social Studies. Her research focuses mainly on long-term care, welfare management, psychotherapy for older people, counseling skills training and end-of-life issues such as suicide, death and euthanasia. She is a social worker by profession and is serving on the management board of several welfare organizations. More information about Dr Chong is available here.  
     
  Professor Pan Haihua is Associate Dean (Postgraduate Education and Research) of the College, and Professor in the Department of Chinese, Translation and Linguistics. Professor Pan oversees matters relating to postgraduate education and research degree studies. He chairs the College Research Committee and the College Graduate Studies Committee. His research focuses on syntactic theory, formal semantics, and computational linguistics. More information about Professor Pan is available here.
