Korean classics alive in Hong Kong - Choe Chi-won
韓國古籍活在香港 - 崔致遠 (英文版)Introduction:
Choe Chi-won (최치원, 崔致遠) , an influential Korean featured in this proposed project, has many surviving texts, including a large collection of poetry. Born in Korea in 857, Choe Chi-won went on to study in China, serve as a Tang Dynasty official in Yangzhou, and was even recognised for his service in helping resist a rebellion uprising against the Emperor Xizong of Tang. In later life, Choe Chi-won focused more greatly on scholarly pursuits and Confucianism, and had works published in both China and Korea. Six poems created by Choe Chi-won will be introduced. This documentary covers the introduction of Choe Chi-won’s six poems and its interpretation of the new generation. As shown from the textual differences in current versions, Choe Chi-won’s role as a cultural connection between Korea and China was very important. However, his poems are considerably forgotten by the new generation. Thus, through the documentary, we would like to show its importance as literature that young generations can deeply sympathize with. The aims of this project are to promote social awareness of the cultural traditions of Korea and China and thousands of years of cultural exchange.
