Outbound Exchange

Application Eligibility

  1. Full-time students of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences enrolled on a CityU government-funded bachelor's degree programme.
  2. Students from nominative 4-year undergraduate programmes should have completed at least ONE year of study and have major declared before you APPLY for Student Exchange Programme. For Advanced Standing students, you must have completed at least ONE year of study at CityU before the START of the exchange programme.
  3. Students must attain Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.5 or above.
  4. Students must meet one of the following minimum English language requirements* set for the Student Exchange Programme unless you choose programmes that are conducted in Chinese language at partner institutions in Mainland China or Taiwan:
    • IELTS overall band score of 6.5; or
    • TOEFL (iBT) score of 79; or
      (IELTS and TOEFL results are valid for two years only from the test taken date.)
    • Grade C in one of the University English course approved by the Senate for fulfilling the University language requirement; or
    • Level 4 of HKDSE English Language; or
    • Any other equivalent qualifications accepted by the University as proof of English language proficiency.
    *Students who are able to produce a valid IELTS or TOEFL or equivalent result that is internationally recognised and widely accepted by the partner institutions will have an advantage in the selection process.
  5. Students must meet the requirement(s), e.g. specific language requirement(s), set by the host institutions.

The College reserves the right to withdraw the Student Exchange Programme offer if a student fails to fulfil the programme requirements, which include but not limited to English language requirements (except the exchange programmes in Mainland China and Taiwan).

Selection Criteria

Successful applicants will normally demonstrate:

  • good communication skills and the ability to study in an overseas environment;
  • a record of participation in co-curriculum/ extra-curriculum activities; and
  • enthusiasm to take part in exchange activities and willingness to promote International Exchange Programme
