CityU Employers’ Luncheon fosters connections with corporates

The Employers’ Luncheon and student exhibition, hosted by City University of Hong Kong (CityU) on 16 March, had more than 500 attendees, including over 300 employers from a wide range of multinational corporations based in Hong Kong and overseas.

Dr Allan ZEMAN, Chairman of the Lan Kwai Fong Group and holder of an honorary doctorate from CityU, was the keynote speaker at the Luncheon. At the student exhibition, he viewed the exemplary projects produced by CLASS students. CHAN Wing-ki Kristy, one of the volunteer ambassadors for the City-youth Empowerment Project (CYEP), was grateful for the opportunity to present and talk about this service-learning project to Dr Zeman and the other employers.

“As a volunteer ambassador, I always look for opportunities to introduce the CYEP to others. I am honoured by this valuable chance to show employers our efforts to serve the community. At the luncheon, I was delighted to share with them my experience of making positive changes, and to receive feedback in return. In addition, I was glad to meet some employers who are also passionate about voluntary work”.

More than 20 CLASS students participated in the event. Students in the Department of Chinese and History presented their 2016 Kim Fan Award winning commercial, Full Heal: The Beautiful New World, while students in the Department of Media and Communication introduced their project, entitled Lost Paradise of Birds – Mai Po. The latter project had won the award for Best News Video Reporting (Chinese) and the first runner-up award for Best News Photography (Online Voting) at the 2015-16 Campus Newspaper Awards organised by China Daily Asia Pacific.

All of the CLASS projects in the exhibition testified to the value of CityU’s Discovery-enriched Curriculum (DEC) in encouraging students to make original discoveries. The effective implementation of the DEC lies at the heart of the College’s educational strategy.
