Experiencing University Life 2017

‘Experiencing University Life 2017’, a three-day summer camp organised by the Department of Chinese and History (CAH), was completed on 13 July 2017. Forty-two Form Six students from thirty-six secondary schools attended the summer camp. During the three-day programme, the participants assumed the roles of university students attending CAH and engaged in various activities to gain experience of university life. They attended lectures, engaged in small-group discussion, went on field trips, visited the library and the Gateway Education Laboratory, stayed in a student hostel, dined in a canteen, and presented their findings. The objective of the project was to help the participants explore their preferred academic subjects and experience university life and values. They became more confident, and gained a clearer perspective on their life goals. During the summer camp, the participants engaged actively in the assigned activities. A series of reflection sessions was arranged to help the students consolidate their knowledge. Many of the participating students found that the summer camp gave them inspiration and guidance in planning their future academic and professional careers.
