New book explores English for specific disciplinary purposes

English in the Disciplines - A Multidimensional Model for ESP Course Design is a new book launched in 2019 by Dr Christoph A Hafner and Dr Lindsay Miller, Associate Professors in the Department of English, City University of Hong Kong.

Published by Routledge in its series of Routledge Research in English for Specific Purposes, the book is recognized in monograph studies showcasing cutting-edge research in the field of English for Specific Purposes. The authors demonstrate how fundamental principles of English for Specific Purposes (ESP), to tailor language learning materials to the needs of specific groups of learners, can be adapted to new contexts of learning in the digital age. Based on sustained research into students’ experiences in an ESP context in Hong Kong, this volume provides an empirically grounded and practical methodology to ESP learning and course design.

The book addresses the principles and practice of ESP course design, explores the dimensions of ESP course design and provides theoretical insights for ESP course design. Case study and project-based learning are applied, making the work a comprehensive key text for anyone studying and researching this topic.
