CLASS students seized the opportunity to exchange ideas with employers at the CityU Employers’ Luncheon held on 15 March 2018. More than 500 participants attended the function, including over 300 employers from a wide range of industries and 200 staff and students.

At the exhibition prior to the luncheon, Christina KOSHY and Kate CHEUNG, student ambassadors of CLASS’s service-learning programme, discussed their experiences in Myanmar last summer. “Some employers are from local NGOs who are planning to organise a tour similar to our service-learning programme. We exchanged business cards, and some of them have offered us an internship opportunity at their company,” said Kate.

The Nerterics was one of the creative projects presented by CLASS students at the event. It is a prototype of a hi-tech travel agency start-up that combines virtual reality/augmented reality technology with tours inspired by TV shows and movies. Bernice TO, a Year 4 student from Department of English, said the event was an important opportunity to make connections with employers. “Our project attracted employers from overseas tourism boards. We were invited to send our CVs and attend job interviews. Finally, we were offered a position in their office.”

Following the exhibition was the luncheon officiated by the keynote speaker, Mr LAU Ming-wai, CityU Council member and Chairman of Chinese Estates Holdings Limited. Mr Lau delivered a talk highlighting the importance of good connections between corporations and young employees.

This is the fourth year that CityU has hosted the Employers’ Luncheon. The event serves as an ideal platform for students to interact with employers and gain insights into the job market.
