CLASS student awarded Third Prize in International Translation and Interpreting Competition

CHENG Hiu-ying Helle, a Year 3 student of the Bachelor of Arts programme in Translation and Interpretation (BATI), has won the Third Prize in Chinese-to-English translation at the 6th Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) International Translation and Interpreting Competition (北京語言大學第六屆國際口筆譯大賽). Congratulations to Helle!

Helle is one of three winners of the Third Prize selected from 692 entries. She is the only winner from Hong Kong in that category. Last year, Helle also won the first runner-up prize in the translation competition organised by The Education University of Hong Kong. According to Mr AU Kim Lung, Programme Leader of BATI, Helle’s CGPA tops all three years in the programme.

Since its establishment in 2011, the BLCU International Translation and Interpreting Competition has appealed to many Chinese and overseas contestants. The number of applicants and participants has been increasing steadily. There were 517 applicants from BLCU during the first competition in 2011. In four years' time, that number has soared to 9,735, with applicants from China, Britain, the United States, France, Singapore and Australia.
