Research Fellow of AIS won the GHS Book Prize 2017

Dr Catherine Yuk-ping LO, Research Fellow of the Department of Asian and International Studies, has won the 2017 Global Health Section Book Prize of the International Studies Association (ISA) with her publication titled “HIV/AIDS in China and India – Governing Health Security”.

The Global Health Section Book Prize recognises the best book on any aspect of global health published in the previous two years. The recipient is selected by a committee appointed by the Global Health Section of ISA. Being the only winner for this section, this book by Dr Lo was published by Palgrave Macmillan US in 2015. It compares the policy approaches taken by China and India in dealing with HIV/AIDS. The author applied the securitization theory with some modifications to address the original shortcomings of the theory.

ISA was founded in 1959 and is one of the oldest interdisciplinary associations dedicated to understanding international, transnational and global affairs. It has more than 7,000 members worldwide, including academics, practitioners, policy experts, private section workers and independent researchers, among others.
