CLASS seminar attracts talent in town

A seminar on “University Life Planning and CityU Scholarships for Hong Kong Talents” organised by CLASS attracted around 80 secondary school students, parents and teachers on 9 July 2016. The seminar was a timely event to help prepare Form 6 students for the release of the HKDSE results in the following week. It was also a good opportunity for CLASS to reach out to local secondary schools and the community.

The participants were greeted by Professor Xiaowei ZANG, Dean, Professor Dennis WONG and Dr Peppina LEE, Associate Deans, and Professor Hon S. CHAN, Assistant Dean for Internationalisation. The participants were introduced to CityU’s accomplishments as a leading university in Hong Kong and the world, the professional education and teaching excellence at CLASS and how the College nurtures students through its Discovery-enriched Curriculum and experiential learning. Information was also provided on the new entrance scholarships for talented local students launched by the University. Two outstanding students of CLASS, Miss Jelly CHEUNG of the Department of Linguistics and Translation and Miss Gloria MA of the Department of Applied Social Studies, shared their learning experiences and success stories. They encouraged the secondary students to plan ahead for university education and academic success.

Many of the participants said that they found the seminar useful and inspiring. The vast majority of participating DSE students indicated that they would consider prioritising CLASS programmes among their JUPAS Band A choices. Most parents and teachers who attended the seminar also said they would also consider encouraging their children/students to give high priority to CLASS programmes.

On 8 July, faculty staff and alumni of the College were interviewed by the Digital Broadcasting Corporation on various aspects of university life and study. A recap of the radio interview is available online.
