The competition is in its second year of running and the award presentation ceremony was held on Apr. 28, 2018 at Lam Woo International Conference Centre, Hong Kong Baptist University.
CityU COM students have strong representation in five out of the nine teams who had been selected to go into the finalist round, amongst a whopping 120 competing teams. Two teams consisted entirely of COM students. In three out of the five teams, COM students collaborated with Marketing majors, complementing one another’s’ strengths in knowledge and skills and created impressive deliverables. These include viral short films, road shows, billboards, media kits, late night events, social media postings and the like.
In this competition, contestants were tasked with spreading positive social messages on behalf of their sponsor organizations ranging from corporates to NGOs. They met with their sponsors numerous times to ascertain the PR goals and objectives, devised plans, implemented strategies and executed tactics. In the final round, they must present the outcomes of their plans before a panel of judges composed of veteran PR and marketing professionals.
PioneeR said the competition gave them a chance to work with LINK and learn about their PR work. They found it eye-opening and challenging.  “We are very thankful to all the teachers who gave us advice on content creation and the shooting process,” said PioneeR. “We’re especially grateful to Ms Sonia Yeung for being our advisor and taking up the lead actress role in our short film << 阿仔,今晚返嚟食飯嗎?>>,” said the team.
Taking part in the competition has have boosted the confidence of many contestants and better equipped them for strategic event planning. For some, it was a wakeup call to stay practical: ‘Out of the eight events we planned, we could execute only two due to the time and resource constraints,” said Uniqity, a team of four COM majors. “We learned how to make the best out of the available resources despite challenging circumstances. As a result, we are more adept at adjusting quickly to meet PR objectives.”  Another team member, Lily, said: “We find it gratifying when our client Lee Kum Kee accepted our proposal. We thank them for all the support they’ve given us.”
