Advances in Artificial Intelligence

Background Artificial Intelligence (AI) is not a new subject.  It has been around for decades.  Due to the recent advancements in microelectronics and computer science, proliferation of data, and investments being made in storage framework, tracking and analytics technologies, AI has become common in many residential, commercial, and industrial applications.  This programme aims to share with audience the recent advances in AI and applications.
Objective(s)
1. Share with teachers the current state of AI development and its applications
2. Illustrate the operations of AI with examples
Programme Description The programme lasts two hours.  It involves two speakers.  The first one is Mr. Samuel Lo, General Manager of nVidia AI Technology Center – Hong Kong and the second one is Prof. Henry Chung, Assistant Head and Professor of Department of Electronic Engineering, CityU.  Mr. Lo will firstly present a new computing model – GPU deep learning, in which deep neural networks are trained to recognize patterns from massive amounts of data.  Then, Prof. Chung will use two examples to illustrate the operation of AI.  The first example is a battery diagnostic system and the second one is a distributed machine learning architecture for training a neural network to control an energy conversion system.
