This course will enable students to know the different faces of the Chán. It will introduce the formation and transmission of Chán and discuss the influence of Chán in Eastern and Western culture.

We will study selected Chán canons, literatures and arts, as well as analyze Chan life styles and logical thinking and apply the Chán wisdom to today’s society.

The Course will have five types of assessment: class participation, homework, presentation, online discussion and reflection, and a group project. This is to ensure that students can participate fully in the course and that there is appropriate communication within the lecture.
