This course identifies the economic, cultural and social impacts of tourism. As a major economic sector, tourism contributes to the economic development of rich and poor countries alike. Tourism has also encouraged the large-scale movement of people around the world and has arguably led to a significant degree of cultural transformation. This course provides students with a systemic understanding of tourism’s effects on both tourists and the societies that receive them. It adopts multi-disciplinary approaches to analysis of tourism development case studies in the global tourism landscape, with the aim of equipping students to participate in significant cultural and tourism policy debates.
