GE2401 - English for Science - 科技英語

Like other specialist communities, scientists share common assumptions about the world that they draw on when communicating in English. This course aims to raise students’ awareness of how these assumptions affect their use of English for scientific purposes. They learn how to organise spoken and written texts, present and support arguments, and select appropriate grammatical structures and vocabulary to communicate scientific information effectively to both scientific and lay audiences. Students work in groups to complete an ‘English for Science’ project, in which they collect data for a simple scientific study that they then present in the form of a multimedia scientific documentary (group work) and a written scientific report (individual work).
