Inspiration, Nature, Joy: A Day with Dr. Satish Kumar
On 2nd December 2012 Dr. Satish Kumar visited City University of Hong Kong to talk about his life experience and the true relationship between individuals and nature.
There was also an art-jamming session where students expressed their thoughts on our Mother Earth and a Green Art over Plastic Disaster exhibition of art made from the plastic pellets collected from Hong Kong beaches after the plastic spill during the No.10 typhoon this August.
Prof. Paul Cammack, Head of Department of Asian and International Studies, welcomed Dr. Kumar and started the talk session with a video on Britain's glass craftsmanship.
Dr. Kumar said how important it is for university students to not only learn to use their mind and brain, but also to use their hands. This is part of holistic education with hands making the connection with nature and allowing people to turn their inspiration into tangible objects.
In his talk Dr. Kumar shared his life experiences and elaborated how we can achieve freedom and let go fear. He encouraged students to follow their heart and mind and to make things happen by hands. He told students that when they practice what they believe their energy and passion will inspire others and make their voice heard. The talk led to many questions exploring these ideas.
Dr Satish Kumar was in Hong Kong as the guest of Kadoorie Farm and Botanical Garden. His visit to CityU was organized by Green Connections, Joint University Environmental Innovation Forum and CityU City Youth Empowerment Project.
