Time:

4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Venue:

Speaker:

Mary E. EDGERTON
Associate Professor, Department of Pathology
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center

Dr. Edgerton presented her work on cancer ecology, which is a field of study that takes into account life styles and living environments, as well as the discursive history of the disease. Her lecture began by outlining the percentage of occurrences of cancer on different continents due to varying life styles and environmental factors. She next sketched out the recorded history of cancer and the evolution of various treatments. By identifying specific regional combinations of factors and types of cancer, Dr. Edgerton hopes to more readily identify optimal treatments and preventative care.
