Hong Kong, a
Special Administrative Region (SAR)
of the Peopleˇ¦s Republic of China,
is situated on the southeast coast
of China. Covering an area of 1,104
sq km, the territory is made up of
Hong Kong Island, the Kowloon
Peninsula and the New Territories.
The core Victoria Harbor separates Hong Kong Island
from Kowloon. As
well as making up the bulk of Hong
Kong's land mass, the New
Territories also incorporates 262
outlying islands, including Lantau
where the airport is located.

Unlike travel to
Mainland China, travel
to Hong Kong for visits
of less than three
months is visa-free for
most nationalities. A
passport is required.
Separate entry permit is
required for travel from
Hong Kong to Mainland
China and/or to Macau.

The legal tender is the Hong
Kong dollar (HK$).
Credit cards are
accepted in major hotels
as well as shopping
malls. The exchange rate
is about

Hong Kong has a
subtropical climate with
distinct seasons.
During the summer months
from late May to mid
September, it can get
very hot and humid with
temperatures range
25-32°C and average
humidity of 86%.
When there is
tropical storms and
typhoons which occur
mainly between May and
November, the Hong Kong
Observatory will
announce updated signals
for weather conditions.

attention to the signals
and warnings broadcast
on TV, radio, the
Universityˇ¦s homepage
and posted around the
campus. Under such

from the MTR Kowloon Tong station

campus (Office Hours:

- 5:00 pm). Visitors can
exchange foreign
currency or travellerˇ¦s
cheques into Hong Kong
dollars according to the
daily exchange rates at
the bank.
24-hour Automated Teller
Machines (ATMs) are
installed at most of the
banks in Hong Kong and
are connected to global
networks such as Cirrus,
Global Access, Plus,
Visa or Master. Visitors
can withdraw cash in
Hong Kong dollars from
ATMs by using their home
ATM cards or credit
cards. |
