The Enrolment Process

a. New students are required to come to the University campus for enrolment. For direct applicants, the appointed date, time and venue are shown on the enrolment notification letter. For JUPAS applicants, the enrolment date, time and venue will be shown when accepting the offer online.

b. The enrolment process normally takes about 20-25 minutes. We will take your photo on site to produce your student identity card. After that, students will be invited to complete two surveys (Student Profile Questions and LASSI) conducted by Office of the Provost and Office of Education Development and Gateway Education (EDGE) respectively, which takes another 15-30 minutes.

Change of Enrolment Date and Time

Only direct applicants may change their enrolment date and time. Please follow the following procedures:

From the CityU Student e-Portal:

  • Select AIMS under Useful Links on the left-hand side of the screen
  • Select the tab Services for New Students
  • Select Re-schedule Enrolment Appointment

Your Student Identity Card

You will be issued a student identity card after enrolment. The card bears your name and student number with a photo which is for identification purpose at the University. Your mode of study ('full-time' or 'part-time'), programme level, admission date and expiry date will also be shown on your student identity card.

Arrangements when Typhoon Signal Pre-No. 8 or above or a Rainstorm Black Warning is hoisted

The University will be closed and new student enrolment will be suspended when typhoon signal Pre-No. 8 or above or rainstorm black warning is hoisted. Please click here to see the University's basic guidelines for activity cancellation under adverse weather condition.

The cancelled enrolment will be postponed to the rescheduled dates at the same time and venue. No separate notification will be issued.

Identity Documents for Enrolment

Under current immigration policy, persons holding one of the following types of identity documents are permitted to enrol as students of the University -

Local Students Non-local Students
  • Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card
  • Document with right to land in HK
  • Document of Identity
  • A One-way Permit for entry to HK
  • Valid dependant visa
  • Valid employment visa
  • Valid IANG visa
  • Valid Stduent Visa

At the time of enrolment, please produce your identity document to the University for verification. Expired visa and visitor visa will not be accepted. In case of doubt, please check with the Immigration Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region concerning your eligibility for studying in Hong Kong.

Special Notes for Students with Physical or other Disabilities

Students with disabilities are advised to inform the University so that, where possible, the University can provide appropriate assistance to you. Simply complete and submit the Questionnaire for Students with Disabilities by the end of week 2 of Semester A.
