The Department’s programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels focus on providing Hong Kong students with relevant skills and knowledge in the areas of English for Specific Purposes, applied linguistics and professional and corporate communication. The department also offers courses in literature and cultural studies. At undergraduate level, the Department offers BA (Hons) in English for Professional Communication; BA (Hons) in English for the Professions; At the postgraduate level, the Department offers two MA degrees: MA in Teaching English as a Second Language, and MA in English for Specific Purposes. The Department has an active research agenda and offers a small but highly vigorous PhD programme, with particular strength in the areas of applied linguistics, critical literacy and discourse studies, cultural studies, and professional communication studies.
