The Department of Public and Social Administration (SA) is one of Hong Kong’s most sought after places to study politics, policy, and administration.
Our department is the biggest department offering tailor-made programmes in these studies among sister institutions in Hong Kong. Each year, we attract many first choice applicants from students who complete their A Levels and other qualifications.
SA provides a vigorous combination of theoretical and applied studies to prepare students for a wide range of career opportunities in administration and management. Our effort in integrating theory with practice strengthens our contribution to the theory and education of public and social administration. When students graduate, most have done well academically and in their chosen careers.

4 May 2012 Dr. Wen WANG has received the Richard Musgrave Prize for his article “School District Responses to Matching Aid Programs for Capital Facilities: A Case Study of New York’s Building Aid Program” in National Tax Journal, 2011, 64(3). The paper was co-authored with William D. Duncombe and John M. Yinger.
30 April 2012 A paper by Professor Richard Walker, together with Professor Martin Painter and two more authors, Professor Tom Christensen (an Adjunct Professor of this Department) and Professor Lisheng Dong has been chosen as the 2012 recipient of the Pierre de Celles Award. The Pierre De Celles Award, named in honour of the former IASIA Vice-President (North America), is given to the authors of the best paper presented at the IASIA Annual Conference. The paper Christensen, Tom, Lisheng Dong, Martin Painter and Richard M. Walker. 2011. Imitating the West? Evidence on Administrative Reform from the Upper Echelons of Chinese Provincial Government, International Association of Schools and Institute of Administration, University of Roma, Tre, 13-18th June has been nominated as Best paper presented during the IASIA 2011 annual Conference by the selection committee.
30 April 2012 Dr. Chan Su JUNG, Assistant Professor of this Department, has received the June Pallot Award for his article “Organizational Goal Ambiguity and Performance: Conceptualization, Measurement, and Relationships” in International Public Management Journal (volume 14, 2011).
