Prof. Edwin Tso and alumnus Dr. Martin Zhu delivered talks in the Distinguished Lecture “Mathematical Modelling in Materials Science: From Theory Practice to Business Start-up”

Kick-started with the opening remarks by Ms. Teresa Chan Mo Ngan, Deputy Secretary for Education; Prof. Michael Yang Mengsu, Senior Vice President (Innovation and Enterprise) and Prof. Guohua Chen, Dean of the School of Energy and Environment (SEE), Prof. Edwin Tso and our alumnus Dr. Martin Zhu recently delivered talks on a distinguished lecture entitled “Mathematical Modelling in Materials Science: From Theory Practice to Business Start-up”.

This lecture is jointly organized by the Education Bureau and SEE to unveil the transformative potential of applied mathematics in driving eco-friendly solutions and commercial success within industries.

With more than 200 Secondary School students and teachers attending this event, Prof. Tso and Dr. Zhu dissected the inspiring journey of their electricity-free cooling technology from a mathematical model to a market-changing business, which expectantly encouraged the students to further their studies on Mathematics to an advanced level and ignited their interest on Materials Science.
