Impact of Forests and Climate Change on Carbon Neutrality

Most countries around the world have announced that they will achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Complete carbon neutrality can be achieved only by reducing carbon dioxide emissions and simultaneously budgeting how much carbon is absorbed by nature. About 25% of the carbon dioxide we emit is absorbed by the terrestrial ecosystem, and forests are responsible for most of it. If the climate extremes that have been observed recently interfere with the carbon sink process and become increasingly severe by 2050, our goal may be to set it up again. In this talk, an overview of the global carbon cycle and its interaction with climate variability will be delivered. It will also discuss how much carbon is sequestrated by forests in Hong Kong and East Asia and what management they need.
