School of Energy and Environment Celebrates Faculty Achievements with Promotions

We are delighted to announce the recent promotions of four esteemed faculty members at the School of Energy and Environment (SEE). These individuals have demonstrated outstanding research and teaching achievements, and service to the School and their respective fields. Heart-felt congratulations to each of them on their well-deserved promotions.

Prof. Alicia An promoted to Full Professor
Prof. Alicia An has been promoted to the esteemed position of Full Professor. Her research focuses on membrane technologies, wastewater treatment, and water quality. Over the years, Prof. An has made significant contributions to the field, developing innovative approaches to address pressing environmental challenges. Her expertise and leadership have been instrumental in advancing sustainable solutions for water management. We commend Prof. An for her exemplary achievements and look forward to her continued contributions to the SEE. She is also the awardee of CityU Outstanding Research Award for 2023 in the Junior Faculty Category, the recipient of HK RGC Research Fellow. She is an Associate Editor, Process Safety and Environmental Protection.

Prof. Carol Lin promoted to Full Professor
Prof. Lin's research focuses on biorefinery and waste valorisation. Over the years, Prof. Lin has made significant contributions to the field by developing advanced technologies on circular waste-based biorefinery for sustainable production of chemicals, materials and fuels, which led to reduction of environmental burden of waste disposal and enhancement of resource efficiency. Additionally, Prof. Lin won a number of innovation awards, including Gold Medal in Geneva Invention Exhibition (2018), Gold Medal with Jury’s Commendation in Geneva Invention Exhibition (2016), and the President’s Awards (2017). She is an Associate Editor for Biochemical Engineering Journal, Editor for Chemical Engineering Journal, and Senior Editor for Sustainable Environment. We congratulate Prof. Lin on her promotion and express our gratitude for her invaluable contributions to SEE.

Prof. Shauhrat Chopra promoted to the Rank of Associate Professor with Substantiation
Prof. Shauhrat Chopra’s research focuses on life cycle assessment for emerging materials and technology, as well as resilience of critical infrastructure systems. Prof. Chopra's work has shed light on the environmental impact of various industrial processes and has laid the groundwork for sustainable practices in the energy and environmental sectors. His dedication to interdisciplinary collaboration and his ability to bridge the gap between academia and industry have made him an invaluable asset to the SEE. We extend our warmest congratulations to Prof. Chopra on his well-earned promotion.

Prof. Theodora Nah promoted to the Rank of Associate Professor with Substantiation
Prof. Nah's research focuses on environmental chemistry, with a particular emphasis on understanding the chemistry pertinent to atmospheric particulate matter (aerosols) and dissolved organic matter in aquatic ecosystems. Through her meticulous investigations, Prof. Nah has enhanced our understanding of the intricate processes that govern environmental systems. Her research findings have contributed to mitigating the impact of atmospheric pollutants and preserving the health of aquatic ecosystems. We congratulate Prof. Nah on her promotion and express our appreciation for her invaluable contributions to the field.
