SEE Undergraduate Student received Seed Fund from HK Electric “Green Energy Dreams Come True 2023/24 (Tertiary Institutes) Competition”

Under the supervision of Prof. Edwin Tso, an undergraduate student at the School of Energy and Environment (SEE), Miss Lau Cheuk Ying, Kathy, has received a seed fund of HK$50,000 from the “Green Energy Dreams Come True” competition organized by HK Electric. The fund is in support of her project titled “Study and Development of a Hydrogel Thermochromic Smart Window with Electricity Generation Capability for Building Applications”.

The competition aims to acknowledge students who demonstrate excellence in the fields of green energy, carbon reduction, sustainability and innovation.

Kathy’s project focuses on the integration of hydrogel thermochromic smart windows and photovoltaic cells, utilizing a cutting-edge technology known as luminescent solar concentrator. By combining these elements, she aims to develop hydrogel thermochromic smart windows capable of generating electricity. The primary objective of her research is to enhance the energy-saving efficiency of thermochromic smart windows and contribute to the overall reduction of energy consumption in buildings.
