Renewable energy sources continue to play an important role in modern economy of today’s world. Banks, other financial institutions and more broadly the private sector have become the major forerunners to participate in the development of renewable energy projects.
The discussion will introduce the fundamental concepts of energy finance and how they are applied in the real world. Our speaker currently works in the banking industry where he took part in some of the most high profile projects to finance renewable energy across regions. He will be sharing experience from his current role and explain how the industry landscape has evolved over time.
Graduated in 2017, Calvin is the second cohort of undergraduate students at the School of Energy and Environment. He also earned a master’s degree in Climate Change, Management and Finance from Imperial College London. Calvin then joined China Construction Bank as a management trainee before landing on his current role at the Global Financial Institutions Group of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, where he focuses on global funds, serving some of the world’s top-tier financial institutions. Drawing from his experience working alongside clients’ renewable energy investment mandates, Calvin foresees that there will be significant room for growth in the sustainable energy and infrastructure space, which can be facilitated by using the right financial tools.
