We are a research group in the School of Energy and Environment at City University of Hong Kong. Our research focuses on Systems Biology for Energy and the Environment. We are interested in advancing the fundamental understanding of microbial sciences and applying this knowledge to solve energy, environmental, and human health problems. We work at the interface of microbiology, biotechnology, and engineering.

News: PhD Student Opportunities (2024/25)

We are currently recruiting talented and motivated students interested in pursuing PhD study in the area of microbiology and biotechnology with applications to energy and environmental problems. The candidates should hold a bachelor or master degree in areas such as microbiology, microbial sciences, bioinformatics, bioengineering, biochemical engineering, environmental engineering, environmental sciences or related disciplines. Applicants with a background in bioinformatics or molecular biology are especially welcome. Interested applicants should consider applying for the prestigious Hong Kong PhD Fellowship. News: Postdoctoral Fellow Opportunities

Our research group is currently recruiting a number of Postdoctoral Fellows who have expertise in the following areas:

  1. metagenomics or bioinformatics;
  2. metabolic engineering or molecular biology, and
  3. genome-scale modelling

The successful candidates will participate in a couple of new projects related to biobased chemicals or microbiome.

Candidates should have a recent Ph.D. in chemical engineering, metabolic engineering, bioengineering, microbiology, molecular biology, systems biology, bioinformatics or a related discipline. Proficient oral and written communication skills in English and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team are essential.
