Introduction

Innovation Commons has been jointly set up by the Office of the Provost, the Office of Education Development and Gateway Education, School of Law, Library, and Knowledge Transfer Office since September 2014.

Purposes

The purposes of setting up the Innovation Commons are:

  1. to facilitate idea exchange between students from different disciplines in order to promote synergetic innovation
  2. to motivate and support students creating and formulating innovative ideas
  3. to educate students about IP
  4. to nurture students ideas to mature IP and seek appropriate way to protect it
  5. to promote entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial spirit

To echo the above initiatives, the School of Law has specially designed a short-term Intellectual Property course. All undergraduate students are welcome to attend the course. After the successful completion of the course, the student will get a certificate.

Courses and Online Registration

The following courses are available to the CityU undergraduate students.

Patent Searching Activities and the Strategic Use of Patent Information and Patent Information Search Drills  

This course is likely to be taught by an IP expert from the World Intellectual Property Organization.  The course aims to introduce and illustrate comprehensively the concepts of searching patent information. Practical activities have been incorporated throughout the course to complement theoretical principles that underpin patent information searching. Course participants are also furnished with in-depth information regarding sources, techniques and data used during patent searches.
