Matthew Peacock earned his Ph.D. in 1996 in the Department of Language and Linguistics at the University of Essex. His dissertation title was The Motivation of Adult EFL Learners with Authentic Materials and Artificial Materials. He has taught students on a wide variety of programmes and courses since joining the Department of English in 1996. His current research interests include English for Specific Purposes, TESL theory and methodology, second language teacher education, programme evaluation, and factors associated with second language acquisition such as learner attitudes, beliefs about language learning, learner attribution, teaching styles, learning styles, motivation, and learning strategies. He co-edited (with John Flowerdew) a collection from Cambridge University Press, Research Perspectives on English for Academic Purposes and has also published papers in a number of journals including the English Language Teaching Journal, International Journal of Applied Linguistics, System, Corpora, and Language Teaching Research. He is a member of the review panel of English for Specific Purposes, System, and the Asian Journal of English Language Teaching and also reviews papers for Language Teaching Research and the Journal of English for Academic Purposes.
