Dr. GALI Nirmal Kumar is currently working as Research Fellow in the School of Energy and Environment, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR, since August 2013. His research interests at CityU has been on the Investigation of cell toxicity due to various sources of air pollution, and the role of titanium dioxide in eliciting cell toxicity. Investigations included effects of air pollution with Spatial comparisons (Urban v Roadway v Residential), Hong Kong MTR and other transport systems, and combustion of different biodiesel blends. Before to this, He pursued Doctoral studies In Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Pondicherry University, Puducherry, India. During this, he had extensively worked in the fields of Protein Characterization and Animal Cell Metabolism. Specifically, He had worked on Thermostable Laccase enzyme characterization, where he has applied Purification strategies, Biophysical studies to determine Protein melting temperature and stability, and Bioinformatic approaches for Protein modeling. He had developed an application where the purified enzyme decolorized Malachite green and Indigo Blue dye, 98% successfully.


Award and Achievement

  • Dec 2014 “Best Paper Award” Institute of Research Engineers and Doctors. It is awarded for the paper entitled "A Comparison On PM-Induced Toxicity From Emissions of Public Transport and Ambient Atmospheric Conditions in Hong Kong" presented in 2nd International Conference on 'Advances in Applied Science and Environmental Engineering', at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 20-21 December 2014.
