The core of this course is the cultural interaction on the Silk Road in historical context, with a focus on the following concepts.

1. The characteristics of cultural interaction on the Silk Road, past and present.

2. The influence of the history of the Silk Road on aspects of culture, religion, economy and society.

3. The influence of the relation and significance of the Silk Road in terms of globalisation on China’s development.

The course combines lectures, tutorials and online learning. The teaching is supported by the GIS, a platform that shows geographical data on the silk route, offers organisational, layered details and combines Web 2.0 study tools for interaction.
