Offering the only major of its kind in Hong Kong today, the Department of Asian and International Studies meets an urgent need for the city-state and its university students. Put simply, AIS is nurturing the next generation of experts in Asia and its place in the world. Using the tools of comparative politics, sociology, international political economy, and anthropology, AIS takes cross-disciplinary approaches to key questions about political change, international trade and security, global governance, migration and cities, development, the environment, and social and cultural forces.
Further, with its ideal positioning at City University of Hong Kong, AIS begins by addressing these questions in China and other countries in East Asia. But it also examines the fast-growing connections between East Asia and other regions in the developing world, especially India, South America, and, it is envisioned, Sub-Saharan Africa.
