A skin-integrated multimodal haptic interface for immersive tactile feedback
30 NOV 2023Prof. YU Xinge and his collaborators developed a thin and soft multimodal haptic feedback interface that can be directly integrated with skin. Different feedback modes in the interface are used to provide users with diverse sensations, such as force, temperature and texture rendering.

Prof. CHEN Chia-Hung, Prof. Gary FENG, Prof. HU Jinlian, Prof. LIU Lu, Prof. SUN Dong, Prof. WANG Dongan, Prof. WANG Lidai, Prof. XU Chenjie and Prof. ZHANG Yong were listed among the top 2% most highly cited scientists (career-long/single year) in the report of Stanford University in 2023.

Ultrasound-activated Chemotherapy Enhances the Precision for Eradicating Deeper Tumours
13 OCT 2023Prof. WANG Lidai and Prof. ZHU Guangyu in the Department of Chemistry developed “sono-sensitized chemotheraphy” (SSCT), which is a new form of ultrasound-activated chemotherapy, to further enhance the precision for eradicating deeper tumours with centimetre range of tissue penetration and minimizes side effects.

17 AUG 2023A group of undergraduate students led by Dr. Zhejing BAO from the College of Electrical Engineering, Zhejiang University visited the Department and its laboratories on 17 August 2023. Prof. YU Xinge Awarded RGC Research Fellow Scheme
11 JUL 2023Prof. YU Xinge has been awarded for the RGC Research Fellow Scheme (RFS) 2023/24. Prof. Yu received a fellowship grant of HK$5.2M for a period of 60 months for supporting his research project on Skin-Integrated and Multi-functional Closed Loop Human Machine Interface: Sensing, Actuation, and System Integration.

The research project is titled “Theory and Methodology of Magnetically Driven Microrobots for Precise Cell Delivery.”

Novel Microfluidic Tumor Model Developed
10 MAY 2023Dr KHOO Bee Luan and her research team developed a novel microfluidic multi-faceted bladder tumor model, TAMPIEB, which integrates tumor-associated macrophages and bladder cancer cells to investigate the influence of bacterial distribution on immunomodulation in the tumor microenvironment in vivo.

New Wearable Interfaces Bring Scents to VR
9 MAY 2023Dr YU Xinge and his collaborators in Beihang University developed two small, wireless wearable interfaces that bring smell into virtual reality. One can adhere to the skin between the nose and mouth like a bandage, while the other straps on beneath a headset like a face mask. The interfaces could be helpful for people who have anosmia, or an inability to smell.

Joint Scientific Experiments in Outer Space
3 MAY 2023CityU signed a collaboration agreement with the China Resources Research Institute of Science and Technology and Shenzhou Space Biotechnology Group to commence joint scientific experiments in outer space. The first project was sending dLhCG, a joint repair material developed Prof. WANG Dongan and his research team, to outer space for undergoing six months of research experiments.

Novel E-Skin to Reduce the Sense of Distance in Human Communication
23 FEB 2023Dr. YU Xinge and his research team developed a wireless self-sensing and haptic-reproducing electronic skin (e-skin) to detect and deliver the sense of touch. The e-skin has 16 flexible sensors to perform the touch sensing and haptic feedback functions.
