Secondary schools briefed on new admissions model

About 100 secondary school principals and teachers learned about the new admissions arrangements set out by City University of Hong Kong (CityU) for next year at an information session on 24 September.

They also found out more about exciting new learning opportunities for students.

The takeaway from the session was that next year the College of Business and the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences would change from a college-based to a departmental admissions model. The College of Science and Engineering adopted such a model this year.

The aim of the new approach is to better facilitate students’ entry into their first-choice majors.

In addition, a consolidated set of majors will be offered to better align with professional requirements and Hong Kong’s specific needs. 

Professor Arthur Ellis, CityU’s Provost, and Professor Linda Li Che-lan, Associate Provost (Strategic Planning), highlighted in their welcoming remarks CityU’s latest developments and achievements in professional education and cross-disciplinary research.

Professor Paul Lam Kwan-sing, Chief-of-Staff (Vice-President), briefed participants on entrance requirements, new and consolidated majors, and admissions arrangements for 2016–2017. Professor Christian Wagner, Associate Provost (Quality Assurance), demonstrated the essence of collaborative learning through immersive visualisation. He showcased how students can visualise, and interact with, real and virtual places through highly realistic 3D and 2D graphical representations.

After the talk some of the participants toured two innovative exhibitions, namely “Rebuilding the Tong-an Ships New Media Art Exhibition” and “Pure Land—Inside the Mogao Grottoes at Dunhuang”.
