More than 900 freshmen mingled with senior students at the University Life Induction Day 2016 at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) on 13 August.

The event, organised by Student Development Services, familiarised new students with the University and introduced them to resources that will facilitate personal growth and planning for university life.

Professor Way Kuo, University President, and Professor Horace Ip Ho-shing, Vice-President (Student Affairs), officiated at the kick-off ceremony.

In his opening remarks, Professor Kuo warmly welcomed the new students and briefly introduced them to CityU’s seven Colleges and Schools. He encouraged them to excel, discover and grow, and to become good local and global citizens.

In his remarks, Professor Ip urged the audience to build an extensive network and nurture soft skills by joining extra-curricular activities and training courses over the next four years.

The programme at the event included a performance by the CityU karatedo team, excerpts from the musical Fame performed by 20 CityU undergraduate students from various disciplines, and an Alumni Crossover Talk.

Facilitated by Dr Ron Kwok Chi-wai, Dean of Students, the talks provided new students with a greater understanding of University life and enhanced confidence via stories of alumni successes.

After the talks, the new students were divided into groups for a training workshop entitled “University Life as Transitional Change”.

Also attending the event was Dr Wong Chi-tim, Director of Student Development Services.
