CityU students win the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fellowships and Scholarships

The 32nd Awards Presentation Ceremony of the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund was successfully hosted on 17 March 2019. Mr. Lee Ho Wai, Leon, a final-year student in Global Business Systems Management, and Miss Shang Liang, Echo, a third-year research postgraduate majoring in Public Policy, were honoured to receive the prestigious Scholarship and Fellowship from Lady Youde, the Honorary Patron of the Fund.

While there were only 4 fellowships and 7 scholarships offered to all the tertiary institutions in Hong Kong this year, Leon and Echo stood out from others by their passion and contributions to the community. Among his many distinguished achievements, Leon is the owner of Eldertreks, a social enterprise promoting cross-generation integration in Hong Kong. Eldertreks has provided training for elderly people to lead local tours in town, promoting the preservation of local history and culture. Leon has also led a team to develop a mobile phone application for children who suffer from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

Echo was devoted to improving the well-being of physically-challenged population in Hong Kong. Through her PhD research, Echo aimed to address the unemployment and underemployment issue of the wheelchair users, in hopes of alleviating the problems of poverty and discrimination involved.
