The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at City University provides leading educational programs in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences. It is home to six departments spanning a wide range of subjects. These are the Departments of Applied Social Studies; Asian and International Studies; Chinese, Translation and Linguistics; English; Media and Communication; and Public and Social Administration.

According to QS World University Subject Rankings, it is currently ranked 22nd in the world for Linguistics (including both Chinese and English language studies), 36th for Communication and Media Studies, 42th for English Language and Literature, and 45th for Politics and International Studies. Overall, QS now places the College in 72nd place for Social Sciences and in 79th place for Arts and Humanities. The College prides itself in its research reputation, and is also concerned to provide excellent opportunities for research degrees at the level of MPhil and PhD studies.
