To celebrate the start of the New Year and share with local educators the latest trends in network security, the College organised a Spring Luncheon with secondary school principals on 9 March 2018. More than 30 secondary school principals and representatives attended the function, reinforcing the close relationship between the College and the secondary school sector.
At the luncheon, Professor Xiaowei ZANG, Dean of CLASS, welcomed the participants. In his welcoming remarks, Professor Zang expressed his commitment to continuing and deeper collaboration between CLASS and secondary schools. He encouraged schools to arrange campus visits during which our staff could introduce students to the latest admission requirements and faculty members could share their expertise in talks on their fields of studies.
Due to our shared concerns about cyber security, Professor Dennis WONG, Associate Dean (Student Life and Learning), invited IT specialist Mr YOUNG Wo-sang to deliver a talk entitled “New Trends in Network Security: A Challenge to Secondary Schools” at the luncheon. In addition to identifying the latest trends in network security, Mr Young illustrated with examples the various cyber threats schools are facing today. He also offered tips on how to protect ourselves from cyber attacks, and reminded the audience that it was most important to back up crucial data and to practise due diligence in handling personal information.
The College announced at the luncheon a new entrance scholarship for JUPAS entrants. Prospective students with outstanding HKDSE scores will be awarded a scholarship when they enrol at CLASS. Associate Dean (Undergraduate Curriculum) Dr Peppina LEE gave an overview of the new scholarship. The school principals and teachers commented that the presentations helped them gain a deeper understanding of the College. They were delighted to learn more about the possible threats to network security at schools. They also enjoyed communicating with faculty members and exchanging views on further collaborations.
