Scented Lucky Charms Giveaway to Celebrate the Start of a New Year

After weeks of semester break and Christmas holidays, students are back to campus for the new semester. No matter what academic outcomes are in the last semester and what life incidents you have encountered in the previous year, let’s move on and set new goals with positive attitude. The students of CityU’s Department of Chinese and History (CAH) and the Student Development Services (SDS) created a special “Lucky Charms for You” giveaway activity on 16-19 January 2024 at CityU, to send new year wishes to students and promote mental health.

The lucky charms are scented sachets designed by CAH students. The green sachet represents academic success, vitality and growth. On the sachet there is an inscription “Remember to relax and practise what you intend to do”. Another pink sachet represents well-bring, inspiration and good health. It bears an inscription “Aim for excellence while taking a break”, which encourages students to maintain work-life balance. The design concepts and relevant information were shown on the exhibition boards, students were invited to learn about the symbolic meanings behind the Chinese patterns and calligraphy.

The “Lucky Charms for You” activity was well received by students. Due to overwhelming response, all sachets were distributed on 18 January and the activity had to be ended a day earlier. Professor Freddy BOEY, President of CityU, also attended the activity and listened to CAH students’ sharing of their lucky charm designs. He also wished students an amazing semester ahead with accomplishment and personal growth.

This activity is part of CityU’s DegreePlus programme under SDS. It is an initiative offered by SDS to provide students with opportunities to participate in off-classroom activities that can develop students’ lifelong interests and transferable skills for their workplaces. A wide range of co-curricular activities, including community services, athletics, arts and cultural, interest clubs, and leadership experiences are organised under DegreePlus to enhance students’ self-awareness and connections with others.   To learn more, please visit: https://www.cityu.edu.hk/sds/web/studentlife_degreeplus.shtml
